The main reason I would disagree is the fact that Atari almost killed the industry they created. They had no idea how to maintain a console or third parties for a long period of time. They would rush games out to the market expecting them to sell when they clearly won't because they were a glitchy mess. Third parties would create what ever they wanted, and back then we had no reviewers so it was even harder to determine what was good and what was trash.
The NES however, saved the US console business and showed exactly how to do it right. It created a perfect system with how to deal with third parties with the NES chip and Nintendo seal of approval. It also had amazing games and graphics for it's time, and created a great and comfortable controller. It also created the gaming Mascot himself, Mario. This tribute video shows that perfectly, and why I consider the NES, the most innovative console of all time.
